INSTRUMENT REPAIR & RESTORATION

Repair
Common Repairs
Common repairs include string replacement, sound post adjustment, bridge re-filling and replacement, nut adjusting, tail gut adjusting and peg refitting and replacement. Grooves may also appear in the fingerboard due to a lot of playing. These can be removed several times before a new finger board is necessary. A lot of these repairs are routine.
Extreme Repairs
Extreme repairs would include the re-gluing of the neck, removal of the belly (top) of the instrument to facilitate crack repairs, re-gluing of the bass bar or linings that have come loose.
Finish Repair
Finish repair can be an arduous task as color and varnish are matched to restore the appearance of the instrument.
Restoration
Restoration usually refers to an instrument of either monetary or sentimental value that has fallen on extremely hard times. It is not refinished in the sense of stripping, staining and re-varnishing, but rather may require a great deal of finish repair, crack repair and new setup.
